Window Treatments for the Lake
There’s something about a lake view that’s good for the soul. Those peaceful mornings where the water is like glass. Hearing the call of a loon or the splash of a fish. Soaking in nature’s beauty.

When you’re lucky enough to have a lake view, you want to make the most of it. But you also want to have insulation in the winter or perhaps privacy from neighbors next door. How can you balance all of these factors? Diane Larson, is a window coverings expert from Hirshfield’s Baxter, and she says there are a number of products that will work for a lake home.

“I sell textured roller and solar shades a lot as you can still maximize your glorious view, take advantage of the ultra violet protection and have privacy when needed,” says Larson. “For windows that need more privacy, I oftentimes combine wood blinds with shades. That also helps control the sun and glare.”

Cellular shades are a good option for homeowners who are seeking extra energy efficiency, want privacy at night or want to shut up the home tightly if they only use their lake home in the warmer months.
“Because so many lake homes are close to neighbors, I do sell quite a bit of top-down, bottom-up treatments or Nantuckets,” says Larson. “Shutters are getting increasingly popular, too.”

The good news is there are a number of great window coverings choices for your lake home. Whether it’s a year-round home or summer cabin, you can select the window treatments that give you the insulation and privacy you need—along with a view so you can soak in the scenery.
